Tiptoeing Through the Tulips

TheBetterHalf

Well, I really wasn't on my tippy toes.

Here in Kansas City, two of the most pleasurable locations to walk and smell the flowers and see interesting statuary are the Plaza and the Kauffman Gardens just east of the Plaza. I informed Cutest of my plans to do this several days in advance. This meant getting up-and-at-it at the dreadful hour of 8 a.m. I know, those of you who grew up on a farm (or are working) are snickering in the background.

So with a forecast of plentiful sunshine, but not without a chill in the air, I struck out early – on my own.  Cutest had informed me a day or so earlier that she thought the flowers would look just as beautiful at 2 p.m. The photographer in me knows that the early morning low light does its magic, but that’s why Cutest is the editor and I am not.

Except for tulips and just a couple of other botanical species, I cannot tell you one from another. “That’s a pretty red one and look over there at the vibrant purple one.” So goes my flower garden knowledge. But absorbing their palettes of color and heavenly crafted petals is enough to put me in a zen like trance.

Don’t just take my word or photos for it in the slideshow and video below. Get outside and inhale the odors and enjoy the sights of a luscious display of flowers. Cutest enjoyed the table arrangement I brought her (no, I didn't pick them while there).

Here's Cutest dancing in the video:

P.S. The Kearney tulip festival begins Friday, April 5 (yikes, today) and goes for as long as the tulips last. It's really just a short ride away. https://www.funfarmpumpkinpatch.com/tulip-festival.
