Burger and a Walk

TheBetterHalf
Hamburger and truffle fries at BLVD Tavern

One evening last week, a perfect spring night in February, Cute and I walked over to BLVD Tavern, a great little dining spot on Southwest Boulevard between Broadway and Campbell. It's not a sports bar; it does have a couple of smallish TVs at the bar. Most importantly there is parking just across the street, for those who dare to drive and then run/walk quickly across the Boulevard.  The food is delicious, and the people are nice.

We started out at around 5:00 p.m. because we wanted to watch the sun go down as we walked. And oh yes, happy hour! Not sure we took total advantage of happy hour but my gin and tonic was only $5. Cute, who had developed a recent passion for rum in Key West, specically Papa Hemingway’s Pilar rum, had a tasty substitute.

We split a burger and the truffle fries. Definitely not because I’ve been hungering for a hamburger for the last six weeks, the burger was truly among the best I've ever had. The truffle fries here are always fabulous, especially when served extra crispy as I always ask for.

Even splitting a burger was more than enough and the truffle fries portion was substantially generous. Garlic aioli, oh my.  It's occurred to us that it makes more sense to split a meal than to take two half meals home or to waste the food, a huge no-no in my book. Also, I was raised as part of the Clean Plate Club, worried about all the starving children. (According to the USDA, 30–40% of the food supply in the US is wasted. The US EPA estimates that 66 million tons of food was not consumed in 2019, with 60% of that sent to landfills. So grim.)

Very full, we walked back to our respective condos, happy about the most simple of outings and reflecting upon how lucky we are. Memories are made of such, aren’t they?

P.S.  On March 1, First Friday, BLVD Tavern has the Swallowtails playing at 8 p.m. – a good time to try this place if you haven’t already. Or go for their weekend brunch, always wonderful.
